Open Wheelchair Foundation Announcements

  • June 19, 2018 - Open Wheelchair Foundation was a winner of the Select Health, Select 25 grant competition, receiving a $2500 grant. We were one of 25 winners out of a pool of over 500 applicants. The funds will be used to provide 5 to 6 motorized wheelchairs to children in need.

  • May 9, 2015 - We've released the first version of the wheelchair parts list and instructions and posted these on the website. These plans are based on the BYU student wheelchair. We have not fully verified the design yet. We've found many errors in their documentation, and so there may still be errors yet to find. We are currently building a wheelchair based on the documentation that the students have supplied, and attempting to catch any remaining errors. We have also made significant changes to the website, and it's back end. We now have a real database driven mailing list, so that we can more easily send out notifications. We are still working on the electronics controller, so this is not quite ready. We will announce this when we have a beta version of the controller board.

  • Dec 5, 2015 - We have completed the controller board, and are beta testing it with a small focus group. If all goes well we hope to make it available in the next couple of weeks.
