Vegetronix, Inc. provided the vision of creating a low cost light weight pediatric wheelchair, and co-sponsored the BYU capstone team, which produced the first version of the open wheelchair. It continues to provide ongoing financial and technical support to the Open Wheelchair Foundation. Vegetronix is a Utah company which manufactures water level sensors, soil moistures sensors, and soil moisture meters.

Brigham Young University was a co-sponsor of the BYU capstone team, which produced the first version of the open wheelchair.
